Clevelandâs tough defense and his shaky offensive line make him a risky starter, so bench him in most leagues. Only think about starting him if your league uses two starting quarterbacks or if late news shows the Brownsâ top pass rusher (like Miles Garrett) is outâwatch injury updates before lock.
Start Wentz â heâs been playing well, has Jefferson, Hockenson, and Addison catching passes, and Pittsburghâs defense has been giving up a lot of points to quarterbacks. Itâs a small sample and McCarthy could return sooner, but this week Wentz is the better play.
Wentz is expected to start Week 3 against Cincinnati, which looks like a softer matchup and he has strong pass catchers to help him. He hasnât thrown for 200+ yards in a long time and the Bengals force turnovers, so only plug him in if you donât have a better quarterback this week; otherwise just keep him as injury backup.
He's McCarthy's backup, so in deep leagues or leagues that let you start more than one quarterback he's worth picking up as cheap insurance since he can step in and do well if McCarthy misses time. In regular shallow leagues, don't start him unless McCarthy is hurt.
