Add him to your roster and keep him as a reserve in bigger leagues (12 teams or more) because he catches passes and is the main backup to the starter. Only start him if your league is deep or the starter can’t play, since his playing time and production have been inconsistent so far.

Coaches gave Gainwell more snaps and he caught passes in Week 1, so grab him off waivers in deeper leagues or in leagues that give points for catches. He’ll split work with other backs, though, so only start him in small leagues if a starter is hurt or he keeps getting that playing time.

Don't start Gainwell this week — he's likely behind Warren and won't get many snaps or carries. Only think about him in very deep leagues or if Warren is out or last-minute reports say Gainwell will get the pass-catching work, and double-check the team's depth chart in case the expert mixed up teams.

Draft him in the late rounds as a bench backup who can catch passes and step in if your starter gets hurt. Don’t spend an earlier pick on him — he’s just depth because the running job is shared.
